There are two ways for a direct mailing campaign to end: with the in flux of funds and donors, or a horrible loss of respect and reputation. To avoid the latter, you will need a plan and a comprehensive understanding of the tools of the trade. This session will allow you to attract new donors and build unexpected relationships. This session is ideal for fundraisers with all levels of experience. We will cover topics like:

   
1.   How to understand the what’s and where’s of direct mail.
2.   How to incorporate your other fundraising plans with a new direct mailing.
3.   How to develop your donor base and increase the size of your gifts.
4.   How to attract major donors through direct mailings.

Speakers Profile

Tim Bete
Communication Director
St. Mary Development Corporation
Tim Bete has 25 years direct marketing experience in both for-profit and non-profit organizations. He is currently Communication Director at St. Mary Development Corporation in Dayton, Ohio, and was previously National Marketing Manager at the University of Dayton, where he created direct mail and fundraising materials for the University's $150 million Call to Lead campaign. Bete has won more than 20 national awards for communication excellence and been quoted in many marketing trade magazines.

During his career, Bete has:
Written copy for direct-marketing programs that helped increase alumni giving participation by 54 percent in a single year. He also created a newsletter for young alumni that increased giving participation by 66 percent in a single year.

Created concepts, wrote copy, directed art and project-managed national direct-marketing promotions for IBM, World Book and Rayovac.

Created a direct mail package that asked for a $1,000 gift and succeeded with a 30% response rate.

Been published in dozens of media outlets, including The Christian Science Monitor, Sacramento Bee, The Internet Fundraiser, Association Publishing magazine, and anthologies including Chicken Soup for the Father-Daughter Soul and Amazing Grace for the Catholic Heart. He is also author of two award-winning books.
